Last Weekly Picture! Three days before Luke arrived! |
Walking into the hospital! |
Luke arrived on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:14 pm. We went into the hospital to be induced at 6:00 am and got the pitocin started around 7:00 am. I was already dilated to 4 cm when I arrived at the hospital. Contractions started coming pretty soon afterwards but they were fairly tame. My doctor came in after 10:30 or so to break my water and instantly the pain of the contractions were too much for me (I am such a wimp!). The anesthesiologist came in soon after and gave me an epidural and I was able to get some rest and nap. I reached 10 cm dilated probably around 2:00 pm or so, however the epidural was working so well that I couldn’t feel the urge to push like the nurse wanted. We waited around for another hour or so and then she decided we should do some “practice pushing”. I’m not really sure when practice pushing turned into real pushing but I still wasn’t feeling the urge to push so my epidural was turned down almost to nothing by the time Luke was born two and a half hours after we started pushing. This might be a little TMI, but since I wasn’t able to feel how to push, the nurse decided it might help to use a mirror so I could see my progress. During my pregnancy, I was not interested at all about using a mirror, but at this point, I just wanted to get this over with! In the end, I was so glad I was able to watch the birth. It was almost surreal seeing my son being born! Needless to say I was exhausted after that, but I was so happy to hold that baby in my arms!
Our little family of three! |
All ready to go home! |
Luke is officially four weeks old and I can’t believe how easy it has been to fall into a new way of life! Ok, so it isn’t exactly easy running on less sleep and recovering from childbirth, but it has been easier than I expected to care for and love this little guy! David and I have been blessed with such a great support system and a TON of willing babysitters.
I am taking a little bit of time while Luke is sleeping to update y’all on life lately! (I started this post a week and a half ago and I’m just now getting around to working on it again…oops!) This is going to be fairly picture heavy…I apologize if you get tired of looking at this little guy! 😉
3 Days Old ready for the doctor’s office! |
Luke had irritated and gunky eyes in the hospital and the pediatrician on call encouraged us to get Luke into our regular pediatrician as soon as possible. We were given eye drops and it seemed to clear up right away. He was a hit with the nurses in the doctor’s office and is already a heartbreaker! haha
